People ask frequently, “Can I go to Mass if I’m not Catholic?” You can attend any Mass service to see what you think. You just cross your arms over your chest at Communion time to show you’re not confirmed, and they bless you instead of giving you the Host. Happens all the time.

I wonder what the thought process is behind this. I'm aware of our different understanding s of what exactly the communion is. But we practice the exact same ritual, having all accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and savior, it seems weird to exclude people based on denomination.

Differences about the Host is the sticking point. Catholics believe the Host is Jesus’ literal body, and to receive Him without grave appreciation and full understanding would be disrespectful to Him. It’s not about control, but respect for Lord Jesus.
