I am just as far from perfect as each one of you. What you see as innate goodness has taken decades of discipline to foster, and I still screw up every day. Sometimes those mistakes are small and sometimes they’re big but even if you don’t see them, they happen. Love and amends.

Each of you can be better than I am now. Each of you is capable of more discipline, more love, more compassion. So am I. We are all capable, but it takes immense work and help from outside ourselves. We cannot do this alone.

Let me rest not upon any pedestal in any mind, but toiling beside you in shared work. Let us be friends and equals first and then discuss how we are each to improve, to manage our fair share of the work to be done.

The Lord has given me mercy and peace, not simply to rest upon it, but to make sure nothing holds me back. I’ll keep making mistakes but I’ll trust to Him, and to each of you, to hold me accountable in my walk. Together, we can make it.

We have both definitely screwed up and sinned. Every person has. Anyone who believes we’re somehow perfect and free from sin is fooling themselves. A couple doesn’t have to be perfect to be loving and alive in God.

I think you are a good man, and a good example of Christian father. That doesn’t make you perfect, heck it ensures you will fail at some point. But it’s not that you fail, it’s how you get up from that failure and present yourself to the world, my friend.

Thank you, friend.
