Yes and no. Many disorders are behavioral symptoms of actual physical deficiencies. As a dude with an auto-immune disease, there's a lot that comes off in my mood well before it presents acute symptoms or pain. Body's a system of systems.

The psychiatrists I've seen always pair medication with therapy. The medication is used to stabilize while the therapy develops good habits and coping skills. I've been off depression meds for years after this treatment.
