Tried the in-laws-in-the-house thing with my wife's parents. It was... not healthy. Very unhealthy, actually. Some people can make it work, but it's not something I'd ever recommend as a general rule.

It depends on all the people involved, controlling parents who never let go can ruin marriages even when living separately, same for weak children...

"ten incomes on one property" reduces/eliminates the need for social welfare. Biggest reason for governmental/social pressures to eliminate it. The other is that extended family structures are largely capable of self-education. That reduces ability to indoctrinate by gov.
