Haha And most pair have no idea how to use the rower properly either, getting nowhere near the benefit they should and risking injury along the way. Sadly, it's often the trainers leading them down the wrong path, probably in both scenarios I'd suggest. It's tragic.

Let me help: 1. Both are legitimate arguments. Depends what your goals are. 2. Regardless, do research and don't be afraid to think outside the box. 3. Don't take a PTs word as gospel. 4. Engage experts in their field to guide you. 5. Do what suits you, and have fun!

Sounds like I need to better define my goals. Stamina improvement, cardio health, and fat loss are my primary goals right now. Muscle gain during that would be appreciated but not my goal just yet.

There's three of us in this discussion & I'd suggest all various strengths & body shapes as a result of what we do. I'm 5'10, 75kg, about 10% body fat & have fitness & stamina in spades. What I don't have is large amounts of raw strength. What sort of body are you after?

In actuality, to lose the remaining fat off my torso, lower my blood pressure, increase my overall stamina, and build a body capable of prolonged energy expenditure. I’m got toddlers to chase and my father just had a quintuple bypass at 62.

I hear you. Making regular exercise, whatever it may be, a regular part of your daily routine and taking control of your diet is essential. Those kids aren't going to get any easier to keep up with, so get support from the right people and grab it with both hands.

I hear you also. Down 2 shirt sizes and lost 8 inches off my waist so far. Stubborn torso fat, mild blood pressure issue, and low stamina remains.

Grwat work to date man! Keep at it. Consistency is the key. Remember, as you drip weight, you also need to drop calorie intake further or you'll plateau. Trust me, it's much easier to reach your kid how to ride a bike when you're fit enough to run alongside them!

Weirdly, I’ve increased my calorie intake while slimming down, but maybe that’s because I’ve switched to a high fiber / high protein diet and cut down on carbs.

Nope. It's not possible to lose weight without being in a calorie deficit. Maybe you're just more aware of the amount you're taking in now than before? Also, by cutting out the crap, you can increase total food intake while decreasing calories.
