SPOILER FREE REVIEW of Gideon Ira: Knight of the Blood Cross I received the book Tuesday afternoon/evening and finished it this morning. If you're looking for a book that tip toes around moralistic conflict, trying to paint everything gray, this isn't a book for you.

If you're looking for a book that's largely contemplative then this also isn't for you. Gideon Ira is stylized as "heavy metal Christian fiction" and it is exactly that. The book is designed to draw you in with action and keep you there with action.

If you're like me and used to skip through movies upon rewatching, just to get to the action, then this book is exactly for you.
@TheBrometheus interrupts action with contemplative moments of respite, but those moments are never too drawn out.1 reply 0 retweets 4 likesShow this thread -
The main characters are all unapologetically Christian but they struggle internally because they're also unapologetically human. This book isn't full of perfect people. And if you inhabit this corner of Twitter you'll recognize some friendly names (
@MasculineDesign for example).1 reply 0 retweets 4 likesShow this thread -
The fast pacing does make the book feel like it's meant to be part of a MUCH larger series, but thankfully since Adam is prolific the sequels will come in fairly rapid succession.

The writing is descriptive without being dull. We get a detailed sense of the world and how it works without being bogged down by explanations from either the narrator or the characters. That would take too much time away from slaying demons.

And demons there are. Adam has worked with theologians to bring about representations of demons, angels, and fallen angels that make sense. This is the kind of fiction that our children, especially our boys, need to be raised on.

For if nothing else this book is a book about heroes doing their best in the worst of circumstances for goals MUCH bigger than themselves. This book isn't meant to be super contemplative, but the action is also not so mindless that you can just shut your brain off.
