If it was me, I’d approach and mention exactly that concern, flat out. Say I just wanted to put her at ease so she knows I’m not a weirdo. Keep the convo short and go back to life. Shows confidence. A real weirdo might start that conversation but use it as an excuse to chat more.

Honestly, I’ve had exactly this same struggle my whole life. The desire to be go over and be kind to others battling the smothering perception of being a bad man coming to hurt them. I got over it by choosing to do good no matter what but limiting the interaction to only helping.

Kindness requires greater courage now. But that also increases the value of each kindness and the urgency to perform it. You can choose to be suppressed and do no good, or you can choose to push through and find the strength. It’s a choice, plus some social skills to navigate it.
