Yes indeed, I use it 4 days a week. Game changer for me. The trick is that writing with your fingers and writing with your voice are two separate skills so your writing ability fluctuates and you need to practice both to be consistently skilled in each chapter.

That's interesting - I'm thinking of using dictation for my new novel and I had the idea of starting each session using the keyboard and then going into dictation once I have the voice down. Does that sound like a plan?

You won’t need it after a couple weeks. You’ll be amazed how easy speaking is. As if humans have been doing it all along.

Would you say that after a time one's narrative voice flows through speaking as it does before through typing?

Yes. But it takes time to learn the skills again in the new medium. My editor
@BrianNiemeier noted my first dictated book was a huge step back for me in quality of writing. The second dictated book was better. My third (current work) should be on par with how I was typing.2 replies 0 retweets 1 like -

I suggest you hire a frank editor like him to keep you on track when you do switch over. He’s ruthless about helping me fix the issues I didn’t even see.

Yeah, good idea. How about practising with shorter pieces first? Non-fiction articles and the like?

Smart move. But get some outside perspective on those because I totally missed my own backward steps.
