Picture this: You have an extended family of 20 close relatives. You all live together in one giant house. You tend your gardens together, cook your meals together, do your laundry together. All chores are shared. All expenses are shared. You will grow up and grow old here.

My great grandfather was one of 18 children. His mother died, my GG remarried, that is why so many. He made a point of buying land and starting businesses for his sons to run and to make sure they were close and supported one another. Perfect? No. But back then it was done.
