Check this: 3 kids + spouses = 6 kids, each have 3 kids and get married = 18 grandkids, each have 3 kids and get married = 54 g-grandkids, each have 3 kids and get married = 162 g-g-grandkids. 240 descendants in 90-120 years. That’s legacy. Legacy is all.

That’s an absolutely incredible way of breaking it down. I remember a quote saying each man dies two deaths: one in the physical aspect and one when your name is no longer remembered. Living a life worth remembering + ensuring descendants are raised with proper virtues = Legacy

Eternal legacy regardless of remembrance. Your line stands strong and survives. And this expands beyond just kids. Every life you touch significantly enough to change its trajectory becomes part of your legacy. As a therapist I see 100 people a year, 40 years means 4,000 people.

Train ten other therapists as my apprentices, add their 4,000 to my own, 44,000 people.

Calculate how many people on average you help, educate, protect, talk out of suicide, shield from their own stupidity, etc. Plus your kids. That’s your legacy. Your ripples making the world better, forever. If there’s a societal collapse, your legacy becomes even more crucial.

This is why it’s written: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” - Colossians 3:23-24

Honestly brother, that’s one of the most inspiring threads I’ve ever read. I got off a late shift last night and reading it in its entirety gave me a great sense of clarity on the future goals I’ve envisioned for myself and my family.
