I'm reading the new Neal Stephenson novel "Fall; or, Dodge in Hell" I was a big fan. Snow Crash, Cryptonomicon, Anathema.. I've read every one of his books. But this is just bad. 1/

The first 20% of the book (which is a lot of pages, it's Stephenson after all) is faffing about after the first POV character dies. All of the main POV characters are wealthy to full on billionaire level. 2/

Finally at something like 24% we get to the meat of the book. The US is now split into two areas. The "Blue" cities where sanity and reason rain, and everywhere else which they call "Ameristan." 3/

As you might guess from that leadup, Ameristan is full of ignorant, racist hicks with lots of guns and a deliberately dumb version of Christianity where they unironically burn crosses. 4/

As you would expect, it's a woke shitfest. Worse, it's really hard to read. Almost nothing is happening, and that almost nothing is happening very slowly. Sad.
