People feel guilty excluding others, shutting them out. Others choose to be in your life or not according to expectations you set. You make the initial choice to set expectations, they make the choice of whether or not to meet them, you apply the consequences of their decision.

That’s really it. That’s the secret. You aren’t shutting people out. They’re choosing. To avoid feeling rejected, ask yourself if you’re willing to violate your principles for them to stay with you forever. If your principles are more important, it’s easier to accept rejection.
