As a Christian, I know one man’s opinion you very specifically DO care about.

Which goes back to standing for principles. And you know you are when the Creator of that system approves of you.

Why is it that twice now you have first thought of strangers and men without value before thinking of your own tribe? Modern thinking teaches us that opposition and defiance are more important in strength than belonging and connection.

Huge mind shift for most men. IT’S OKAY TO BE CONCERNED WITH WHAT YOUR TRIBE THINKS OF YOU. And you can still resist what those outside your tribe think of you. In fact, this balance is healthy when your tribe is built on shared principles outsiders won’t share.

What if parts of your tribe openly denounce things that you want or believe? And so you worry what they may think if you achieve them or express your beliefs?

That’s where principles come in. Is that part of your tribe living to the principles, or failing to uphold them? If they’re living to the principles then you’re the one in the wrong and this is a good time to check your own behavior.

I refer mostly to a very small number of family/friends whose opinions differ in terms of what’s considered a worthy pursuit in life, be it entrepreneurship vs working for someone else, whom to date, etc etc. Nothing unethical or immoral at all, only differences of opinion.

Then that’s your tribe. So of course their opinion of you matters. But don’t equate concern about their opinion of you with collapsing utterly into slavery to their opinion. Nonexistent boundaries are also an issue and no healthy tribe will want a man with no personal strength.
