“Why hasn’t there been another Great American Novel?” Because novel writing was dragged into universities and artsy circles where it’s become an expression of feelings instead of a personal craft. Schools stifle creativity to churn out literary snobs who produce formulaic dreck.

London is good, so is Steinbeck. It’s just the criterion of what could be considered great is rather wide.
