It’s important to note there are modern authors whose works could be considered great, but they’re buried under a dunghill of darlings sponsored by corporate gatekeepers invested in monetizing formulaic works and fearful of unknown storytelling variables.

Language is shown to always get simpler in metropolitan areas throughout history. The more metropolitan we get, the more we adapt the trait of efficiency which has it's drawbacks. People have become unchallenged and absolutely retarded. No wonder the novel is dead.

Also because everyone is aiming for the next popular anthology/series (Potter, Hunger Games, Ice/Fire). Writing a one off novel in the current environment is less appealing.
