My paternal grandfather died when my dad was 16. My maternal grandfather lived across the ocean in France and spoke a language I wasn't fluent in. I'm with you in that I want to be there for my grandchildren and give them wisdom I never got from my own.

So do I. I just realized I was potentially missing out a lot. Though I am lucky that my aunt's stayed in the village in a house with a big garden and we played a lot there. Just not with grandpa.

I was 8 when one of mine died and I only ever met the other one twice and he had nothing to do with me. Considered me illegitimate. My mom divorced her first husband for my dad, he never accepted it or his grandkids. I'm with you, my grandkids will have many many memories.
