If I were a single young man seeking a wife, I’d get deeply involved in my local church and then announce my search for a wife to the old ladies who run the various programs. Guaranteed they know who else is looking and who to avoid.

And being involved in the church means the old ladies don’t want a scandal with a divorce. They’ll likely steer you clear of any temporary marriage partners. Get them protective over you and you’re set.

Get involved beyond just attending. Work the office or usher or join small groups or sing in the choir. Get involved so people know who you are and your values first. When the old ladies start saying, “You’re such a nice young man, why aren’t you married?” they’re sniffing.

And for Heaven’s sake, offer old ladies your arm as they walk in from their cars or out of the church. Number one, they won’t fall and break a hip so it’s just good manners. Number two, this is time for them to ask why you aren’t married and to prod as old ladies do.

I've had some "why aren't you going to seminary?" but no setups. :-/

Not proactively. I have answered questions of why I'm single with variations on "I haven't found a suitable match yet."
