Many new fathers, some of the best in the world, feel tremendous pressure and guilt if they don’t bond with their child immediately upon birth. Men bond by teaching and being taught. When your child is old enough to learn from you, that bond will form. Be present when it comes.

Perhaps a corollary: In a fascinating discussion with my wife, we asked each other, 'What are your children?' After the usual humor, two answers came out. Me: They're my people, to love and lead. Her: They're a part of my body.
