Many new fathers, some of the best in the world, feel tremendous pressure and guilt if they don’t bond with their child immediately upon birth. Men bond by teaching and being taught. When your child is old enough to learn from you, that bond will form. Be present when it comes.

My daughter is over a year old and only in the last two weeks has she started wanting to play with me and learning who I am. She’s been attached to her mother, and I have felt distant because men bond by teaching and being taught. Now our bond is forming quickly. Be at peace.

This is the truth all new fathers should be taught. We bond differently and on a separate time schedule. Do not feel guilt, and understand that your time will come.

That happened to me with all my granddaughters too. The boys took to me but the girls took a while to appreciate their grandpa.
