I feel so bad every time at checkout when they try to get you to sign up for the club thing. $25 a year, but $60 in coupons! And 20% off new hardbacks every week. And some kind of discount on your regular purchases! But I'm just there to get my magazines, not data collection.

Don’t feel bad. They mismanaged the company and failed to adapt to the needs of the industry.

My husband worked for Hastings and we were there when it went bankrupt and was liquidated. It was very bad, I wouldn't wish that on anybody (especially cashiers that are just trying to not get yelled at for selling a discount plan to customers).

Been there before myself. Awful for the store grunts. They bear the brunt of displeasure and greed from both sides.

I really like B&N though, the stores are nice and they've got a big selection of weird stuff I'd never come across via the algorithm. I hope the new owners figure their shit out because there are weirdos out here like me that still like to shop at stores on the weekend :)

The new owner had great success doing this with another chain. I doubt they’ll go under. Just adapt.
