My father has worked every weekend that I’ve been alive. He runs his own business now and mentally is working 24/7. He never pauses. Every family event can stop at a moment’s notice for him to work instead. Work comes first. Fathers, we need to provide. But don’t be like this.

Not throwing shade at my father. We were brutally poor and he fed us from his own two hands by working himself nearly to death. But there comes a point when the scales tip and you stand back from the desk. Where you shift priority back to family. Not every man knows how.

Make sure it’s not. Follow men like @HunterDrewTFA and @MasculineDesign who will kick your balls to the roof of your mouth with every email reminder about the duty of fatherhood.

I actually already follow both of them on Twitter and subscribe to the newsletter. It's a gold mine, and I encourage everyone to take the time and actually *read the damn thing*.

To clarify my original statement: One of my simultaneous character strengths and weaknesses is my tendency to throw myself into things. The problem is that I can focus a little too much and get tunnel vision. I hope to have a wife that will be able to poke me when needed...

...and be able to say, "You know we appreciate how hard you work, but you're missing out on the important things. Don't repeat your own father's mistakes.". Does that make a little more sense?

Yes it does. You know what you need more than a wife who keeps you on track? Make friends and mentors who hold you accountable. I’ve got 17 men who constantly kick my ass and demand answers and hold me accountable. Both of these men are included in that. You need a tribe.

Build that first and then your future wife will see your level of dedication and be drawn to you. Don’t attract a woman looking for a management project. ;)

To put it politely, I wouldn't be attracted to a woman looking for a management project or someone to mother.

Therein lies the problem. I've always had an incredibly hard time making friends, and I've only ever had a small handful of mentors. Other than when I was in the Army I've never felt like I was part of any kind of brotherhood, and for the most part it didn't extend...
