Christ calls no man to be a doormat. The Apostle Paul exhibits all the ferocity of a man from Judges. And yet, the boldness and strength of character from the Old Testament has largely fled or been driven from the Church in favor of a lukewarm submission to the opinion of others.

The New Testament does not supersede the Old Testament. Indeed, the Ten Commandments are present in the Old. You are setting up a false dichotomy between the two. So I ask again: Where are the men of fierce faith and character like Samuel, Abraham, David, Daniel, Samson, Moses?

Am I to understand that you believe the Old Testament to be obsolete and the men of God present in it to be unacceptable role models? This seems to be your contention.

Show me where I used the phrase “Old Testament Christian” and I’ll agree with you.

I suspect we’re splitting hairs when in fact we aren’t dissimilar. My contention is that modern men have been led to believe we must be watered down and cowering when in fact we are called to be fierce and upright, as the men of old. That Old Testament boldness must be present.

The men of old did not cower and grovel for approval. Neither did they sit quietly as evil was performed. And neither, as you rightly pointed out, did our New Testament forebears. So then why do we?
