Oh yeah, I know this one all too well. I have a note file on my phone with story seeds/ideas waiting for me to work on. Plus working on multiple WIP's ranging from alt history to horror to romance.

I understand exactly. I rely upon Evernote to keep my sanity balanced. It organizes everything for my fickle brain.

I've given up on the sanity thing - tried it once, it was the worst five seconds of my life. But yes, the notes. Once I started doing that, even if the idea hits me in the middle of the night, or as I'm settling for bed, I can jot it down and then sleep.

That’s the key to getting to sleep, it’s true. Your brain cycles because it knows the info is important to your future and doesn’t want to lose it, but it’s hard to tag creative memories when it’s exhausted. Writing them down gets the signal to your brain that it can rest.

It's one of the things that works well. Sleep patterns are often broken for me regardless, but doing things like that helps fight one of the reasons for insomnia, and allows for better productivity the following day - in theory.

Yes, that balance between what you can control and what you can’t. Discipline for what you can, preparation for what you can’t. I’ve had to work out an exacting outlining and morning prep method to get my 10k words on days when my kids keep me awake all night.

I used to manage 5k a day, every day, but had to step back from that due to family issues. Now, with only one child still at home and a very supportive husband, I'm slowly building my word count up again.

Excellent. If you’d ever like it, I’d be happy to share my own method that’s been useful for me. Maybe you could harvest it for ideas on your own method.

Sounds good to me. Look forward to chatting with you later. My beloved is sending me back to bed (recovering from a nasty fibromyalgia flare plus chest gunk)
