The best advice is for women to recognize this conflict and grip pretty tight. It’s a life hack that earns you instant respect from most men.

Related, whenever I shake a man's hand and I get the "dead fish," there's always a split second where my initial instinct is to wonder "what the hell is wrong with this guy?" But then social training kicks in and I just have to consign the moment to the whatever hole.

Only if they're bad at shaking hands. A handshake should be firm without being painful. I actually teach handshaking as part of the sales training for my employees. Many people think they know how to shake hands but they've never actually been taught the proper method.

There are three aspects to a good handshake. 1. Thumb web. The hands should fit firmly together. 2. Eye contact. Look the other person directly in the eye. 3. Three good pumps. Then let go and get on with your lives.

A handshake shouldn't feel like putting my hand in a vice grip. It also shouldn't feel like a limp noodle either. Firm is best. Shows control of strength and a means of mutual respect.
