Back of the neck? Seems like I’ve heard behind the ears maybe?

It may seem that I’m being flippant, but I’m being entirely serious. I have zero experience here and my questions are genuine.

You’re all good. There are just large gaps in my knowledge because of my upbringing. When I was 10 I went to stay with an aunt who taught me to wash behind my ears because smell accumulates. No one had ever taught me that before. So I guessed cologne would go there?

Cologne should be discovered; not announced. With spray cologne, a single spritz in the air in front of you, then walk through it. With direct application "less is more." Right after putting it on you won't notice the smell but others will be able to pick it up right away.
