How tiresome it is to be friends with someone who grovels after every kindness. How enormously fatiguing to have to reassure someone after every favor. Cease your sniveling apologies and learn to thank appropriately. Do not punish kindness by then demanding verbal reassurance.

There are differing reasons. Some were abandoned by one or both parents, and feel like a burden. Some have behavior modeled for them.
