How tiresome it is to be friends with someone who grovels after every kindness. How enormously fatiguing to have to reassure someone after every favor. Cease your sniveling apologies and learn to thank appropriately. Do not punish kindness by then demanding verbal reassurance.

One reason I see people behaving that way, is because at some point a nasty person used kindness as a weapon against them. They learn to fear kindness. Fixing the problem means finding the root cause, which is more difficult than apologizing differently. But they need to grow.
