If total withdrawal from this world in monastic contemplation of Christ keeps my soul white as snow, and any engagement with this darkened world leaves me stained with sooty ashes, how gray must I become to fulfill the Will of God?

Faith without works is dead and so forth. Christ definitely did not call us to isolate ourselves in a futile effort to remain pure. Even in isolation we’d find ways to be sinful, and we’d never have a chance to reach anyone else. Good thread.
