I was fortunate that other men prepared me. There were times I felt like a crap father because I wasn’t bonding. Can’t imagine how it is for men who don’t understand and feel like failures or monsters.

I was like this with my own dad until last year. Now the guy is like one of my best friends. It’s insane how important fathers are to the family. You don’t realize it until you really connect with them.

This is natural. Women bond with children by nursing, but men bond with them by teaching. Unfortunately this is seldom taught to men, who then feel guilty for not bonding with their infant children.
-
Women bond with newborns because we are just a bag of hormones at that point! Nursing helps but really, those hormones are overkill.

In my experience, this is totally normal for men, particularly manly men. And it’s natural. Dads aren’t swimming in post-birth hormones like moms, though some hormones are released. The attachment isn’t as fast or as solid.
-
And the need is different. Babies need mommy cuddles the way growing boys need dad's teaching & guidance. We change as we grow.

Yes and I find the perfect time to bond with a Male child is about the same time that they discover that smacking someone in the face and farts are funny. (At least it was with my kids yours may vary.)
