What I think you intend to say here is if a person spends years engaged in a craft or art but has nothing whatsoever to show for it, no collection of works or sales numbers or awards or anything at all, they likely have a fundamental lack in engaging with that craft / art. Right?

Weight training is a good example of what he's talking about. As long as you have some kind of progression and consistency you'll get results, eventually. It might take you 10 years to get where you could have gotten in 5. So the fact that someone got results doesn't mean much.

An analogy I heard once. If somebody wanted to go through a door and he hopped on 1foot spun in a circle 3 times and said ala kazam ala kazoo, then turned the knob and walked through, does that mean he has a good method of getting through doors? Or did he just waste time?
