For many who suffer from anxiety, the challenge is trying to figure out in advance how to respond to various possible circumstances. They’re terrified to get it wrong and step down a path where they’ll lose everything.

For people with this type of anxiety, the issue is one of thinking backwards. They’re not making decisions based on their principles but based on minimizing damage done. That means they’re willing to sacrifice their principles if it means less damage.

Write down 4 principles you absolutely will not violate. Use these principles to dictate all decisions you make from now on. When a challenge arises make your decision in the moment in accordance with your principles. Undertake that action regardless of difficulty or consequence.

No need to frantically plan ahead. In fact, you can’t. Pause at each decision and ask first how best to follow your principles. This is the path to no regret, to greater life satisfaction. Live your principles and live without fear.
