“Unskippable.” In a word, that’s this series.

Whether it’s the ageless bop of the OP or the eye-watering beauty of the gattai sequence, the laughably ridiculously tool sub-theme or the way your heart races when a robot microphone rocks hard enough to fight God... GaoGaiGar cannot be skipped.

GaoGaiGar is the sword in the stone. It is a testament to craftsmanship from an era long past, and though left in the elements for many long years its edge has not dulled with age. There’s a glow about this series, the way it catches the light and dazzles as if freshly forged.

If your heart has ever felt a burning passion for justice If you would lift the tools of humankind to protect your loved ones in the defiance of the gods If you were ever an orphan child delivered to lonely lovers in a snow drift by an alien robot lion GaoGaiGar is for you.

Aaaaaand there’s the kicker. Sadly, it was streaming but the company went belly up. Praying it gets relicensed at some point.

A few years ago I looked and the first half was painfully expensive through second-hand retailers

Reminds me a bit of the anime-within-an-anime GekiGanger in Nadesico.
