Just tried a Turkish delight. First, they taste the way old ladies smell. Then they taste like artichokes.

It used to taste better than it does nowadays. Used to be made with real fruit, typically types naturally high in pectin. Nowadays its pectin extract, sugar, artificial color, artificial flavor, etc, and they're stingy with the walnuts.

Fascinating. People have been asking, why would someone in Narnia sell out their family for this?

Duh, I'm wrong, after thinking about it. Story starts during WW2, & loukums would have been even more a treat, because they were under rationing. It just dawned on me that they were sent to professor's estate bc city wasn't safe. Some elements of 1950s threw me off.
