This still puts men in the position of risking everything, including their job and future, by asking for a date. Until legal situations change and men don’t live with a guillotine hanging over their neck at all times waiting for the slightest mistake, risk-taking is unlikely.

You’re not wrong. Men taking risks has been the foundation of our species’ courtship. And yet, modern political realities turn the risks from humiliation to loss of job, loss of social status, and a plummet into despair. Even if this is not the outcome every time, men fear it.

The question used to be “Is this woman interesting enough to risk humiliation?” Now he question has become “Is this woman interesting enough to risk my entire life and everything I care about?”

I appreciate yall's discussion. I take some comfort in the fact that many people are starting to take responsibility for their lives and seeing a need to fix this broken web of relations.

That’s what I like about @taylorburrowes and why I harass her so often with my peanut gallery comments.
