Seems to be confusion about Confession. Catholics do confess to God but there’s a helper there to talk us through not repeating the sin, plus the priest can reassure you that you ARE forgiven if there’s still doubt. God forgives, but the priest provides care during the process.

In the US they call these cradle Catholics, folks who grew up in the Church but were never taught so don’t know what the purposes are. Leads to drifting away because wtf is the purpose of all this claptrap?

The Church 100% embraces and teaches parents who ask. But parents need to proactively seek guidance. Mass isn’t about teaching like Protestant services generally are, but the same affliction happens in both: People show up and believe their presence in the pew makes them good.
