I’ve been to Confession once in 7 months because we’re wrangling young kids to barely make it to Mass on time as it is. I’d like to make it a regular thing but it seems our parish is almost against it.

My rica director, who was GREAT thought confession once a month was a good balance to not become scrupulous. However I did not start making real spiritual progress utilll started going once a week.

Make an effort to find religious orders near you where you can find sympathetic priests who offer confession, or meet with priests in your parish or nearby to make a standing appointment for confession with you and mrs w kids in tow. Keep at it. It’s difficult.

I've been told that the obligation is relieved (or even met) by General Absolution. I'm also told that this idea only goes back as far as VII, so YMMV.

Ho boy, VII...

Have you tried calling for an appointment at a different time?
-
I have not. Seems demanding to drag the priest in for just the two of us when it sounds like they’ve got a full schedule.

In recommend people go to confession at least monthly, if not biweekly or weekly. While it’s true that sacramental confession is not required per se to forgive venial sins, this ignores that the grace of sacramental absolution also strengthens the penitent against temptation.
-
Regular confession of venial sins (what has traditionally been called devotional confession) is a practice both practiced and recommended by countless saints and popes.

Confession by appointment is standard for priests. It's not an imposition. An hour or more of confession on Saturdays also is standard due to First Saturday devotion. You can ask for more options, but don't expect to get it (welcome to the Catholic Church).
-
If it’s standard that’s good news for me, I’ll start harassing them ASAP. Thank you. :)
