Most people have no idea what the purpose of life is. “What’s the one thing that will survive you when you’re dead and dust?” Blank stares. The answer is relationships. The only thing to outlive you is the ripples you create in the lives around you throughout your life.

Your children, biological and adopted. Your nieces and nephews. Those you mentor. Those you counsel through grief and hardship. Those you teach lessons to and help cultivate skills to improve their life. Lives you save. The wounded you heal. All of these are ripples.

Those ripples continue forever, long after you’re gone. When no one even remembers your name, the effect you had on someone’s life continues to spread and make the world a better place.

This is how you build a legacy. This is an empire of dependents. This is what truly matters in life because legacy is all that will survive you. Your money and possessions will be swallowed up into someone’s pocket. Your accomplishments fade after the funeral. Ripples continue.

So if your life feels pointless and meaningless, invest in the people around you. Find a way to help others and give back. Create relationships. Nurture other human beings who are broken. Spread your ripples. Soon enough your life will be overflowing with purpose.

If you are too broken to help others, reach out in your relationships or find new ones. Connect to other people and ask for help. Seek purpose in love and bonding. Relationships are all that matter, and all else will leave you with a hollow feeling.

If you are afraid to connect to others and hold yourself back from honesty and openness, this will kill you and rob your life of meaning. You will live saturated in fear and loneliness. You don’t have to live this way. Reach out to one person, one safe person, and trust them.
