Our kidlette was assigned Ender’s Game this year (9th grade). I’d add Heinlein’s “Starship Troopers” and “Have Spacesuit - Will Travel,” Brooks’ “Running With the Demon,” Bradbury’s “Something Wicked This Way Comes,” and definitely Rand’s “Anthem.”

I loved Have Spacesuit - Will Travel. Waldo and The Man who Sold the Moon are also excellent early Heinlein books. But really, no young boy's reading list is complete without Penrod.

By Booth Tarkington. It's available online for free, which avoids the new edition they just published to remove "problematic language". I direct your attention to chapter XIX, The Inner Boy as a fine example of the hilarity involved. http://www.gutenberg.org/files/402/402-h/402-h.htm …

Gutenberg includes kindle versions of the books as well. Should be able to download the file, then email/copy it to your kindle. http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/402

Man, what a great book. Good prequel, too. Sequel is holding up very nicely.

I’m seriously loving it. A military sci-fi story with a Ready Player One feel. Or is it the other way around? What genre did you call this again?
