The best piece of advice other fathers gave me before my firstborn came was that men often don’t bond with kids right away. The bond will grow as they develop personalities and learn skills from me. I didn’t believe it but it’s true Women bond by nurturing. Men bond by teaching.

My wife’s ex was a terrible father. Unsupportive although he had a great job stayed stayed with another woman while they were separated. Been married 4 years. It took about a year before my step daughter and son which were 3 and 5 finally called me their dad.

The oldest which is about to turn 18 next year is finally calling me dad as well. And all I had to do was give them love and support in everything they do. Wouldn’t trade my family for anything else!

Shouldering a burden that isn’t your responsibility to rescue children who needed a father. That’s powerful.
