By cry room I guess you mean a room for the young children? What you describe might be relevant in the US, and maybr pther places too, but I dont think this is a very novel invention... But I dont actually know anything about the church history of children at mass so...

I guess that would be an interesting thing to research a bit. How did the church approach young children and the inevitable noise and distraction they cause at service throughout the ages?

In general, I agree. There are exceptions but for half the congregation to be hiding out in the crying room is just silly. Makes sense in a prot service though.

The church we've been attending (spottily) has a lobby for such things, but not a dedicated kid-room. When Terrible Two gets loud, I take him outside and we walk around the building and visit the statuary.

Our Parish has one but nobody uses it. We are lucky that the old folks love seeing children at Mass and if a kid is disruptive we take them out and when they calm down bring them back. Or if its during communion, people deal with it until the Eucharist is received.
