I’m kinda on an edge! God let’s bad things happen but he lets good things happen to! I used to be an atheist and I’m thinking if I should go back or not!

We can dissect that. Do you know the purpose of free will?

Sorta but isn’t it the idea of having your choice of will?

The purpose of free will is to prevent mankind from being slaves. If God is love (1 John 4:8) and that love is perfect, children must exist who are capable of choosing or rejecting that relationship. If the children have no choice they are slaves and that is not perfect love.

That’s the building block of all our world. We children must be free to do things which reject the reality of that love (sin) or embrace the relationship (obedience).

Because the system is designed to allow imperfect beings to exert their wills (acting in the image of God but limited and imperfect), and because we are not omnipotent to enforce our will over every person and animal and object, suffering enters the world.

When this is called a fallen world, the meaning is that things are out of line with God’s perfect will. We are also hunted by the enemy of God who set out to prove we are not worthy of Him and will reject Him (1 Peter 5:8) and all types of snares are set out to challenge us.

God does not tempt us or set bad things upon us, but the Enemy is allowed to tempt us and set bad things upon us in order to test us. The hope is we will see our limitation and call out to God for help, thus accepting the child-Father bond and reaching salvation.

In this way, every painful thing which happens to you is a challenge intended to discourage you but which God will use go strengthen your bond if you use your free will to ask for his help and obey him as a child obeys their loving Father.

God’s very nature demands the existence of children to receive His perfect Love. People ask what is the meaning of existence: it’s the natural consequence of God’s very essence. People ask why we have suffering: it is necessary to create children (not slaves) who can choose love.

Now I’ve only been confirmed in the Church for a month or two now so I’ll ask @padrebrendon to double check everything I’ve said, so I don’t mess you up further. :)
