Your first owned books were Animorphs? Wow, that takes me back, my brothers and I bought so much of that series from Scholastic book fairs too.

I had all the Animorphs until my dad throw them all in the trash right after high school.

I can relate to so much of this. I didn't have shoes, but I had library books.

That was the case with me my 1st semester of college bc I decided have book instead of shoes, but then the shuttle driver looked at me strangely for doing that, and almost reported me.

Probably in finding a used and cheap library book sale would have really helped you. So cheap that they were basically giving the books away at $0.05 or $0.10 a book.
