At writer's group when asked for a memorable character, The Boomer said, "Harry Potter." First rule of writing: write. Second rule: Read. Another. Book.
There’s nothing inherently wrong with Harry Potter. But a person building their entire worldview around a book series for children does not allow for much growth or understanding of nuance. That’s the concern. :)

There’s something wrong with people building their entire worldview around any work of fiction. I just sometimes find it puzzling how HP has become wrongbad in some circles.

I have no idea why you thought I don't like HP or haven't read them. I have no idea why you care what I think of your reading choices. If you're "a writer", then mentioning a 20 year old series sounds like you don't read much.
