/14 Are you engaging with your customer? @DrewHayesNovels does this spectacularly. Right now he has his fantastic Halloween Choose Your Own Adventure event going on, he blogs regularly, and had a serial web project going for several years.

/14 All of these things made sure he was always top of mind and that I was visiting his web site frequently. Two things that are great to have. And if I was going to tell people about him, I could point them to a free piece of work, which is a plus for a potential customer

/14 Are you spreading yourself too broadly? There's pressure nowadays to be on every social media app - twitter, facebook, instagram, pintrest. Here, depth is better than breadth.

/14 The rule I heard was to tweet six times a day. Pushing out interesting content is the key to developing an audience, which will all hopefully buy your book.

/14 For the love of all that is holy, have an email list. The ROI of selling via emails is fantastic. These people are a committed audience who love your product, and you have a great way to keep in touch with them. Set one up everywhere and promote it regularly

.5 Have something free to give away and promote signing up for it often. Your pitch should include expectations. Never break these rules. ex. If you only will email when you're releasing a new book, don't email me weekly progress updates.

/14 Finally, I want to repeat that last point - promote yourself frequently. No one else will do it for you. I know it feels gross, but it's something that has to be done.

/14 If it feels better, think about it like letting someone know your product exists. Selling doesn't have to be gross! It can be as simple as tweeting "reminder, I have a book that I'm proud of that you should buy." Simple, painless, so important
