SECOND. Get a good idea of how you want your novel to end. This is core to determining where the novel should start. IMHO, write a moment of fire out. The big battle. Use whatever characters, pretend that you've figured out how they get there, payback, pain, fun, everything.

THIRD. Trace out the general walk necessary to get to point FIRE. You'll have some changes in route, but get some chapter titles - John finds his Mojo - Sarah hates on John - Travel scene with kissing - Bad guy does stuff. Try to keep it short, but not too short. 10 - 20 steps

FORTH. Honestly, you are ready for
@nanowrimo#nanowrimo at this point. You just have to sit down and figure out WHICH chapter you feel like writing that day, and type out 2000 words. Some will be easier than others. Some will lead you wrong. No worries, 2nd draft will come.1 reply 0 retweets 2 likesShow this thread -
FIFTH What goes in a chapter? This is the real work horse of the novel. There should be one or two solid perspectives. (Characters you are listening to)and they should be doing 2 things. You should tell us their goals and how this supports the FIRE.

This is only the outline level. Once you are writing, it will run away from you, but a solid foundation leads to good writing sessions.

I want to reference a thread by
@TheBrometheus I'm a planner. This means different things to different people, but my thread is clear enough. He is a pantser, with skills and publications of his own. I do not mean to imply that my method is best. It is for me. Just write.1 reply 0 retweets 1 likeShow this thread -

It’s amusing to hear myself referred to as a pantser! So many call me an obsessively detailed Type-A personality. I suppose it’s all in the perspective. :)

Now, I thought you hated outlining. I'd have said that an outline was the basic difference btwn pantser and planner. But, everyone plots somehow.

Adam Lane Smith @TheBrometheusAuthors frequently ask me what outlining and writing methods I use to pump out 10k words in a day. I just published a detailed explanation and guide for using my methods on my blog right here: https://adamlanesmith.com/2018/10/27/my-outlining-and-writing-method/ …Show this thread1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -
