I thought the Catholic Church was arrogant for requiring 6 months of classes to join. Now I see why. Mention you’re Catholic and someone will come out with a snide comment, or say all Catholics are crap, or threaten your job. 6 months shows you this and gives you tools to cope.

“People will hate you.” “Friends may turn against you.” “Your own family may reject you.” The Bible says this about all followers of Christ, but it was something else entirely sitting in classes for 6 months and hearing real stories from others experiencing these struggles.

I myself hit all three before I was even confirmed. When the challenges happened, I was grateful the Church had taken time to prepare me so thoroughly to be insulted and spat on by people who used to sing my praises. So, long story short, 6 months makes so much more sense now.

Wait until the Knights of Columbus ask you to join. It's a good social organization for people who like being social. I don't like talking that much or feigning interest in people's kids. It was difficult for me.
