This isn’t to say that being Catholic makes you a martyr or that public ridicule is special to Catholics. But if you’re gonna join an organization that acts like a lightning rod for anger and hate and misunderstanding, the organizers would be cruel and uncaring not to prepare you

“People will hate you.” “Friends may turn against you.” “Your own family may reject you.” The Bible says this about all followers of Christ, but it was something else entirely sitting in classes for 6 months and hearing real stories from others experiencing these struggles.

I myself hit all three before I was even confirmed. When the challenges happened, I was grateful the Church had taken time to prepare me so thoroughly to be insulted and spat on by people who used to sing my praises. So, long story short, 6 months makes so much more sense now.

I mentioned I was considering converting to Carholicism and only one friend has been supportive. Another said it would be taking a step backwards.
