It is exceedingly difficult to discuss serious theology with any Christian who believes the Ten Commandments need to be updated to reflect modern values.

I am not a theologian. But to my understanding there is/was serious study intomwhich laws apply and which do no. But it is clear from the epistles and Acts, especially those of Paul, that certain laws are no longer needed to be observed. Mostly the ritualistic ones.

The main idea is, most of those old laws were pointing towards Christ and were ultimately fulfilled in him. And thus no longer need fulfilling. There is no more need for sacrifice. There is no need to be afraid to eat pork. Etc. You eat prok tho, dont you?

You don't. But Christ is the Great Redeemer, not the Lawgiver. Yes, he made comments on pre-existing laws, but remove the ten commandments, and most laws are the codification of cultural practice. The 10 commandments, however, are ubiquitous in all but one major world religion

Maybe not called the 10 commandments in those other faiths, but they do exist as a baseline in them.
