I was considering writing an ultra-Catholic apocalypse story. Another Catholic told me my story idea of demonic forces spilling out of Hell and mass-possessing the population wasn’t realistic. Wonder what he thinks now.

I agree with another Catholic. Why? Well... people will succumb to temptation but mass possession means that we yielded free will en masse?

Do you not follow current events?

On occasion. Also History. So... were the Nazis an example of mass possession? Or were they a nation persuaded by a inspired narcissistic megalomaniac who misled them all to ruin.

In jest... But short answer, yes. As you watch the deterioration of the Church in the West and the decline of popular piety, you can't help but see it. WWI left Germany in a spiritual vacuum. Nature abhors a vacuum. You'll be filled with a spirit one way or the other.

OK. But think about it - mass possession - relieves people of their responsibility and culpability for their evil actions. Now diabolical influence is a clear possibility - and we all face temptation. One evil person can persuade others to evil while one good person can give hope
