Well, it's happening. Amazon is "phasing out" Createspace. This will mean higher prices, lower royalties, and more infrequent payments for many authors and publishers.

Wait, so what does this mean exactly? Is it implementing something else? I'm not familiar enough with what Createspace does and what alternative there are, ugh.

Amazon has a print on demand publishing company for the paperback option. Createspace also did this print on demand system. Amazon bought Createspace and now has both similar options. Many think Amazon will collapse Createspace as redundant.

Well, the irony is Amazon actually outsources all of their printing to IngramSpark/Lightning Source anyway--they just offer the turn-key connectivity to the Amazon Marketplace.

Right, which is why some were theorizing they may keep Createspace open to give the illusion of choice.
